What we collect
- Account info — email, name, and password hash when you sign up.
- Owner info — business name, address, phone, and the listings you manage.
- Reservation & review activity — the restaurants you book, favorite, and review.
- Diner leads — when you opt in to "Get the menu & specials" we store your email to send that restaurant's updates.
- Usage data — pages viewed, clicks on phone / website / directions / menu, and standard server logs.
- Payment data — handled by our payment processor; we receive plan, status, and last-4 of the card only.
How we use it
- To operate the directory, reservation flow, and owner dashboard.
- To send transactional email (account, reservations, owner reports).
- To send weekly diner digests and monthly owner traffic reports — you can unsubscribe anytime.
- To detect fraud and abuse, and to keep the community safe.
- To improve the Service with aggregated, de-identified analytics.
What we don't do
We do not sell your personal information. We do not run third-party advertising trackers. We do not let other restaurants see another restaurant's owner data.
Sharing
We share information only with the service providers we need to run BlackPlate (hosting, database, email delivery, payment processing, error monitoring), each under contract to use the data only on our behalf. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights, safety, or the integrity of the Service.
Your rights
You can request access, correction, export, or deletion of your personal data at any time by emailing privacy@blackplate.com. California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and Utah residents have additional rights under state privacy laws; we honor verifiable requests within the time required by law.
Cookies
We use first-party cookies and similar storage to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences. We use lightweight, privacy-respecting analytics to count page views and engagement events.
Retention
We keep account and listing data for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period after closure to comply with legal and accounting obligations.
Children
BlackPlate is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
